Maximising the life of your bedding is not only an economic choice but a sustainable one too. Purchasing items less often means a reduced demand, and as a result, this means less manufacturing occurs and fewer non-recyclable materials end up in landfills. Paying some extra attention to how you wash and care for your bedding items will extend their life and lessen your environmental impact.
We aim to empower our customers with the knowledge needed to prolong the life of all of your home items. As a starting point, we of course recommend that you review the care label that each item comes with and advise you to follow the individual instructions above all else.

Understanding Care Labels

Hand wash as normal | This item is safe to hand wash and is likely the preferred method. If you have a delicate cycle on your machine, sometimes this is also satisfactory (as long as you do not enable spin and keep the water temperature cool). |

Written Tips
On some care labels, or even product packaging you may find a small paragraph with personal tips for taking care of your item. We recommend taking note of this information - mentally or having a little post-it note board in your laundry room - as it means the supplier has gone beyond the standard requirements for their product care label advice. They are invested in the product's lifecycle and are going the extra mile to help you take care of your product.
Tips & Tricks
- Air out your doona or quilt regularly - we recommend having two to swap out for this exact reason. How to air it out & why.
- Make sure your bedding is completely dry prior to putting them away. If you’re ever in doubt, hold the fabric up against a mirror for a few minutes - if there is any condensation when you pull away, you’ll know it's still damp.
- Ditch the fabric softener. Contrary to popular belief, well-made sheets should remain soft with or without the use of a softener. In fact, over time the softener may end up building upon the surface of the fabric and reduce its breathability.
- Most sheet fabrics with creases will straighten out with your body warmth as you sleep on them, with the exception of linen. However, if you’re fond of ironing, make sure you iron them on the reverse side.
- Wash the same fabrics together, and turn everything inside out before washing. Throw sheets and their matching pillowcases in the same wash.
- Give freshly washed bedding a good shake after taking them out of the machine, and hang flat to try.
- Try spritzing some linen spray on your almost-dry bedding before folding and putting away - this helps them to smell fresh when you take them out for use.
- When it comes to washing bath towels, avoid the fabric softener. The product can build up on the towel fibres and prevent maximum absorption.
- With linen fabrics - avoid sunshine! Not only can UV rays cause your linen fabrics to shrink, but will most certainly cause the colours to fade. We recommend drying in the shade or somewhere indoors with good circulation
